Laitram Machinery, Inc. has a position available for a Fabrication Shop Helper. This individual will be a key player in fabrication operations at our Harahan, LA location. Applicants should be self-starters, able to complete tasks with little direct supervision.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements

Responsibilities

Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Set up and assist with fixtures, including Bluco fixtures, and prepare jigs required for weldments
Remove peel paper and cut insulation per job requirements
Perform pre-checks and final inspections on weldments to reduce production interruptions
Deliver back warehouse request tags to the cage to request required parts
Retrieve and stage welding rods and consumables for welders
Prepare welders for upcoming jobs and stage completed or previous jobs as directed
Deliver carts and assemblies to the appropriate destination following POLISH
Maintain floor organization by clearing and staging work areas to support production flow
Sharpen tungsten to support welding operations
Assist with lifting, moving, and positioning of materials and assemblies
Pick up and move pallets, bread carts, and production carts
Cut down and dispose of cardboard from incoming deliveries
Empty dumpsters and assist with general shop housekeeping
Tighten, organize, and maintain bread carts to support continuous POLISH operations
Follow all safety, quality, environmental, and 5S standards
Perform other duties as assigned to support production objectives

Requirements

High School diploma, GED Equivalent, or Vocational School diploma.
Ability to work in and maintain a safe work environment
Entry level knowledge of all equipment and tools necessary to perform the duties required
Ability to learn how to operate material handling equipment to move and align materials
Must be able to learn Laitram Machinery Quality Standards
Must be able to perform the essential job requirements identified in the Functional Job Description for this position, including the ability to lift and move 50 lbs

Desired Qualifications

Previous fabrication experience and/or vocational training.
Previous overhead crane experience
Previous forklift experience
