The Cost, Manufacturing & Project Accountant is a new operational accounting role responsible for most of our cost, inventory, manufacturing, and project accounting work. This position provides vital financial support to operations, engineering, supply chain, and project management through detailed costing analysis, variance tracking, project reporting, and operational insights. You’ll partner closely with internal teams to ensure meaningful reporting and analysis and to embed best practices and continuous improvement into our accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cost accounting including material, labor, overhead, PPV, and usage variances across manufacturing locations.
- Prepare and reconcile inventory accounts including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Own standard cost updates, bill of materials (BOM) reviews, and product margin analyses.
- Execute project accounting responsibilities including POC inputs, cost tracking, budget monitoring, and financial forecasting for project managers.
- Support month-end close by preparing cost-related journals, manufacturing accruals, and inventory adjustments.
- Assist operations leadership and supply chain teams with operational insights, cost trends, variance drivers, and improvement opportunities.
- Prepare financial analyses relating to new product costing, design changes, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Support cycle counts, physical inventories, and audit walkthroughs related to cost and inventory processes.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations to understand product changes, capacity impacts, routing modifications, and cost structure updates.
- Participate in financial transformation testing, ERP enhancements, and process automation initiatives.
- Support audit requests by preparing schedules, providing audit samples, and maintaining strong documentation standards.
- Participate on special projects as necessary (system improvements/business initiatives)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, with 3–5 years of experience of relevant work experience in cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, and/or project accounting.
- Public accounting experience or CPA/CMA preferred
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret operational and financial data.
- Experience with ERP systems, manufacturing data structures, and revenue and costing methodologies.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Advanced skills with Excel and Microsoft Office products
- Advanced skills with BI/reporting/analytical tools.
- Travel (Regular travel to Baltimore is required when deemed appropriate)
