Laitram LLC is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our dynamic Information Technology team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the adoption, lifecycle, and testing of our commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and optimization of these applications, contributing to the overall success of our organization. This is not a development-focused role but requires a deep understanding of application functionality and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

Application Lifecycle Management:
  • Drive the complete lifecycle of business applications, including planning, installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure that applications align with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to implement updates, patches, and version upgrades.
  • Manage application licenses and ensure compliance with software agreements.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
  • Develop comprehensive test plans to verify the functionality, performance, and reliability of business applications.
  • Interface with IT Operations to ensure regression testing after application updates or system changes to identify and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with business users to conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) and gather feedback for improvements.
  • Monitor incidents related to applications, conducting root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
Performance Optimization:
  • Monitor application performance and identify areas for optimization, such as improving response times or reducing system downtime.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure that hardware, network, and storage resources meet the application requirements.
  • Identify and implement performance tuning techniques to enhance application efficiency and scalability.
  • Conduct regular capacity planning exercises to anticipate future resource needs based on application growth and usage patterns.

Requirements:
  • B. S. in Computer Science, MIS or related field; or 7+ years of related work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience supporting business applications
  • Experience scoping and sequencing IT related projects
  • Self-managed; ability to work well independently and in a global team environment 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assigned work according to business need and priorities
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis
