Laitram Machinery manufactures industrial seafood processing and cooking equipment, tree nut pasteurization and roasting equipment, vegetable cooking and blanching, laser-based product graders/sorters as well as other equipment for related industries.  Laitram Machinery is also investing in the design and operation of shrimp processing facilities capable of producing a variety of shrimp forms and products.  Laitram Machinery continues to grow and expand our penetration of current markets as well as growth into adjacent markets.

The Manufacturing Engineer will work as an integral member and will report directly to the Director of Operations.  The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to spend a significant amount of time on the production floor working with the supervisors and team members to continually improve the operation and maintenance of our capital equipment as well as the processes used throughout our facility to support our vertically integrated manufacturing and assembly operations and processes.

Responsibilities

  •         Establishing, auditing, revising, and executing good manufacturing practices (GMPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), predictive/preventative maintenance programs, etc.
  •         Design, build, and implement improvements to production processes & procedures; identify and capture cost savings opportunities
  •         Help develop & maintain production process documentation
  •         Production workflow and plant layout changes, equipment moves, improvements
  •         Defining problems, collecting relevant data, drawing meaningful insights, and providing practical recommendations
  •         Distilling data into meaningful metrics capable of informing key management decisions
  •         Demonstrating and emphasizing a mindset of continuous improvement and operational excellence
  •         Be a champion of Laitram LCI methodologies, lean practices, the theory of constraints and the Toyota Production System
  •         Develop long term plans and schedules for equipment PM’s, regular maintenance, upgrades, etc.
  •         Develop, schedules and implement long term plans for software maintenance, upgrades, re-evaluation, etc.
  •         Oversight of all equipment troubleshooting efforts, repairs, replacement parts
  •         Approve all purchases of parts, repairs, and expenditures for ongoing maintenance of equipment
  •         Develop ongoing process improvements to streamline and optimize data throughput and reporting accuracy
  •         Develop processes for timely delivery of complete equipment/module programming packages to Production for Laser and Brake
  •         Oversee Programmer activities to insure optimized, timely delivery of program packages to Production
  •         Interface with Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Production Planning to ensure complete equipment/module programming packages are released to Production as per schedule and to notify both parties of schedule    failures and required updates


Requirements

  •         College and/or graduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or another relevant engineering/technical discipline
  •         Strong mechanical and analytical abilities 
  •         Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  •         A self-managed individual who is a team player
  •         Microsoft Office fluency
  •         Detail orientation
  •         Excellent written and oral communication skills
  •         Outstanding interpersonal skills
  •         Strong organizational skills


Desired Qualifications

  •         Knowledge of/experience with industrial metal processing equipment, metal manufacturing software, systems and processes and inventory management techniques
  •         Knowledge of and experience with various continuous improvement techniques and philosophies including lean methodologies, manufacturing metrics and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
