Laitram Machinery, Inc. has a position available for an Entry Level/Level 1 Machinist.

Responsibilities:
• Operating manual machining equipment such as lathes, mills, and drills, tapping machine.
• Following Laitram Machinery safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
• Using measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure accurate workpiece dimensions.
• Knowledge of selecting and handling materials for machining, including safety measures when dealing with different metals and alloys.
• Diagnosing and troubleshooting common machining issues and making necessary adjustments.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and toolholders for different machining processes.
• Performs visual and physical inspection of parts produced per Laitram Machine Shop Quality Management System.
• Fabricate simple fixtures and work holding solutions for securing workpieces.
• Performs accurate transactions (clock on, clock off, entering quantities, closing out operation when done, filling in appropriate paperwork).
• Cleans equipment and workplace to ensure a clean/organized work environment.

Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1+ year of machining experience and/or vocational machinist training
• Experience using calipers, micrometers, and other machining measurement tools.
• Ability to fabricate simple fixtures and work holding solutions for securing workpieces.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Skilled in producing high-tolerance parts and achieving fine surface finishes
• Self-managed. Will consistently do what you’re supposed to do and won’t do what you’re not supposed to do.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, working with fractions).
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
• Must be able to work overtime.
• Possess basic computer skills.
• Must be able to meet the functional requirements of the job including the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend/lean over and lift 50 pounds.

Desired qualifications
• Skilled in producing high-tolerance parts and achieving fine surface finishes
• Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting common machining issues and making necessary adjustments.
