Intralox’s New Product Development Department has an open position for Design Engineer to develop new products for the Food Industry.  These products are critical to food safety and operational excellence in increasingly challenging and diverse operating environments.  This individual will be primarily responsible for transforming problem statements into marketable, high-performing products through engineering analysis, design, validation, manufacturing support and post-release support of the product into the market.  You will have the opportunity to own new products from concept to completion.

  • Lead developments projects and implement vetted designs from the conceptual phase through prototype, qualification, and into production 
  • Research desired performance requirements and calculate measurable results to make objective design decisions  
  • Work with a project manager to develop timelines, ensure projects stay within budget and match the scope of the projects to accelerate validated solutions to the market.
  • Develop test plans to evaluate the performance of materials, components, and systems
  • Communicate and interface with team members, representatives from other departments, and internal customers regarding problem/opportunity statements, project scope, and project status
  • Collaborate with in-house patent attorney to file patents for new concepts including drafting/proofing claims and drawings of your new ideas
  • Travel (10-15% max) is required periodically to:
    • Investigate and understand problem definitions and customer needs (Voice of Customer)
    • Learn about the specific industries and operations for which our products will be designed
    • Perform field testing evaluations and follow ups


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline (i.e. controls or electrical with an interest in mechanical work)
  • 3-10 years engineering experience
  • A self-managed individual who excels in a team environment
  • Strong analytical skills that can quickly recognize root causes, think in free body diagrams, and correlate technical decision-making to commercial strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Enthusiastic about continuous learning and personal growth
  • Approaches work with the mindset of making a difference and maximizing value
  • Solid Modeling experience in Pro-E, SolidWorks or Inventor
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite 

Preferred Qualifications

  • First-hand knowledge with conveyance solutions and large scaling manufacturing processes/facilities, especially food processing
  • Experience in plastic part design, plastic material selection, and plastic manufacturing techniques (e.g. injection molding, extrusion, 3D printing and machining)
  • Experience interacting with customers to develop new solutions for a given market
