EHS Generalist
Laitram LLC is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Professional to support all elements and functional areas of the Laitram EHS Management System for our Louisiana and Twinsburg Ohio operations. This position requires a strong background in safety and industrial hygiene risk management. Ergonomic experience is a plus. The EHS Professional will report directly into the Corporate EHS Manager and will be based out of Laitram’ s Harahan, Louisiana office.

Responsibilities:
This position is based in Harahan, Louisiana. This role will support Laitram and Intralox in Harahan. This role will require infrequent travel to Twinsburg, Ohio and Baltimore, Maryland.
- Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Create and maintain comprehensive safety programs tailored to the specific needs of the organization.
- Conduct Safety Audits: Perform regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with EHS standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Conduct Risk Assessments: Perform detailed risk assessments for various job roles and tasks to identify potential hazards.
- Manage Incident Reporting: Oversee the reporting and documentation of all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, ensuring thorough investigations and follow-up actions
- Perform Root Cause Analysis: Conduct thorough investigations of incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Govern Worker’s Compensation: Serve as the internal owner for worker’s compensation claims and serve as the point of contact for the external insurance provider
- Manage Hazardous Materials and Waste Management: Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials to minimize environmental impact while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
- Monitor Industrial Hygiene: Assess and control workplace exposures to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
- Conduct Ergonomic Assessments: Evaluate workstations and job tasks to identify and mitigate ergonomic risks.
- Coordinate with Regulatory Agencies: Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and ensure timely submission of required reports and documentation including SARA Tier II, Solid and Hazardous Waste, and Stormwater discharge
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with changes in EHS regulations and ensure the organization remains compliant.
- Lead Safety Committees: Facilitate safety committee meetings and engage employees in safety initiatives and discussions.
- Coordinate Emergency Preparedness: Create and maintain emergency response plans and procedures to ensure preparedness for potential incidents including emergency drills and training sessions
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or a related field
- 5 or more years of experience in EHS management preferred. Manufacturing a plus
- Proficiency in using EHS management software and tools for tracking compliance and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate others to prioritize safety and environmental responsibility.
- Ability to operate a computer and software including Microsoft Office, EHS management and training software
- Motivated, self-managed professional with the ability to anticipate and react to the needs of multiple managers and organizational needs without direct supervision
Preferred:
- Advanced Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) are highly desirable
- Master’s degree in occupational health and safety, or a related field
- Experience managing facilities across multiple locations
