Laitram Machinery, Inc. has an opening for a Controls Engineer to design and develop control systems for seafood processing equipment that fulfill project requirements. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: creating Solidworks drawings, solid models, schematics, PLC program changes for customer orders and development, incorporating drawing changes for product improvement, maintaining BOM’s for new designs and design changes, report generation, etc. This position will also assist mechanical design engineers and technicians with system testing as project scope requires.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Purchasing, Suppliers, and Project Managers in order to deliver the highest quality of Laitram Machinery solutions.
  • Independently write, implement, document and debug software for controls systems including field devices such as VFDs, photo eyes, shaft encoders, solenoids, scales, etc…
  • Create documentation and training materials for all potential users including but not limited to Laitram Machinery engineers/technicians, customers, and suppliers.   
  • Provide remote and on-site (in-plant) troubleshooting of control systems to support regional service engineers.
  • Provide remote and on-site (in-plant) installation support as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree required in Computer Programming, Engineering or other related field.
  • Extensive programming experience – 4-8 years related experience preferred
  • Proficient in configuring PLC’s, HMI’s, computers, networks, and variable frequency drives
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturer’s drawings and manuals. 
  • Ability to understand Electrical Engineering concepts.
  • Experience in PLC and HMI programming
  • Experience in industrial control circuit design and electrical panel design
  • Experience in VFD programming.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) and relationship skills with engineering groups, customers, and suppliers. 
  • Self-motivated and self-managed to learn about technology, improve processes and work as a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Supreme attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Schneider PLC’s, HMI’s, VFDs, and Schneider programming software
  • Experience with UL requirements/compliance
  • Experience with NEC
  • Experience in SolidWorks or ProEngineer (or equivalent) 3D software
