Laitram, L.L.C. is seeking Machine Maintenance Lead to join the Corporate Facilities Management and Engineering Team at our Harahan office.  This individual will be a hands-on, roll up your sleeves dedicated team member to lead, direct, plan, and perform machinist and mechanical maintenance and repairs. This position must have a high level of organizational skills to help organize and prioritize preventive maintenance utilizing our computer management system and working closely with our production teams. This position will assist with the demand and corrective work orders required for normal campus operations. This position will report to the Corporate Facilities Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Self performs, directs and/ or oversees the following:

  • To plan, organize, lead and mentor a crew of maintenance tool technicians with a strong focus on customer service by using our Facilities Service Request.
  • To plan, organize, lead and perform journeyman level machinist / mechanical repairs
  • Assigns daily work schedule and makes routine inspections of assigned work.
  • Train, evaluates, and instructs others
  • Estimates material costs and seeks bids when outside contractor needed. 
  • Performs routine and emergency repairs and maintenance.
  • To plan, organize, lead and oversee inventory. Order and requisition as needed.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards.


  • Must be a proven leader, able to direct, lead, motivate and mentor others.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, and customer service skills with the ability to solve problems and communicate effectively across different levels to deliver excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Must be able to gain respect and maintain trust within the organization and follow company guidelines, standards and best practices.
  • Must have two or more years’ experience as a Lead / Supervisor/Manager
  • Must have five or more years’ experience as a Machinist, and/or Machinist Mechanic.
  • Must have five or more years’ experience working knowledge of the tools, techniques, and terminology associated with the machinist trade. (CNC lathes, Mills, tool offsets)
  • Ability to organize a program and to effectively lead others and carry it out.
  • Ability to use a micrometer and machine tools.
  • Ability to read blue prints.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • This work may require the use of machinery, man lift, scissor lift and etc. (training provided).
  • Must be able to perform the essential job requirements identified in the functional job description for this position, including the ability to life 76 lbs.
  • Must be a team player, committed to working in an environment of continuous improvement.
  • On some occasions, may be required to work some overtime, evenings and weekends to meet operational needs.
