The EHS Generalist is responsible for providing professional level support within the environmental health and occupational safety specialties.  This position supports all elements and functional areas of the Laitram EHS Management System.

Health and Safety

  • Provide EHS support to multiple manufacturing divisions.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis of incident/accident investigations.  TapRoot experience a plus.
  • Initiate and track corrective/preventative actions to closure.
  • Support the administration/management of EHS related databases including but not limited to training, incident/illness and SDS/Hazard Communication
  • Execute regular facility audits to ensure continuous improvement
  • Conduct or supervise various types of IH sampling/monitoring
  • Conduct quantitative risk and ergonomic assessments
  • Conduct machine guarding, confined space & elevated work assessments
  • Actively participate and advise Safety Committees to build a world-class safety culture
  • Conduct and /or develop appropriate safety and environmental training for managers, supervisors and employees
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Medical Emergency Response Team
  • Standardize health and safety processes


  • Conduct environmental sampling (media may include air, water, waste or other)
  • Participate in the development of emission and waste inventories for all divisions
  • Assist with environmental permitting, auditing and reporting.
  • Coordinate regulated waste disposal
  • Standardize environmental processes

Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to articulate presentations to groups of all sizes and levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software applications
  • Engineering/technical aptitude
  • Familiarity with ergonomics issues relevant to manufacturing environment with strong desire to develop ergonomic expertise.
  • General knowledge of federal and state environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • General knowledge of hazards found in manufacturing processes

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EH&S/Industrial Safety/Engineering or closely related technical field.  Other degrees may be considered depending on experience.  Master’s degree (or desire to obtain) in related field considered a plus.
  • Experience with formal Environmental and/or Safety management systems required.
  • Five or more years of experience.  Two years supervisory experience preferred.  Multiple facility experience considered a plus.
  • Certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, American Board of Industrial Hygiene, or the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management preferred.
