The Construction Project Manager - Facilities is responsible for organizing, directing, and managing all tasks and activities for assigned Key Strategic Projects, ensuring timely and successful project completion.  This position will participate in scope definition, scheduling, design drawings and specification review, budgets, inspections and punchlists.  The desired candidate will have formal project management training and commercial construction experience managing campus projects of $1M+.

Principle Duties

  • Manages multiple, concurrent, complex projects that support campus growth and master planning.
  • Participates in MEP intensive meetings, page turns and drawing reviews to ensure constructability.  Challenges technical decisions based on understanding of construction/MEP best practices and current industry standards.
  • Conducts on-site evaluations of project sites to confirm adherence to construction drawings. 
  • Schedules and coordinates Facilities projects with all Divisions, contractors, vendors, architects, and engineers.  Serves as central contact for all assigned projects.
  • Works with the Projects Team, Laitram’s Divisions and internal departments to develop project plans and timelines, including value engineering whenever possible. 
  • Creates and maintains project schedules, tracks project progress, monitors deadlines and delivery dates, and manages unexpected changes to project schedules.  Keeps Strategic Projects Manager up-to-date on progress, challenges, and milestones, and seeks timely approval for substantive changes or decision points.
  • Maintains superior communication with Facilities Team to achieve timely and efficient job completion.  Chairs various pre-submittal, project kick-off and post-mortem meetings to facilitate open discussions.
  • Collaborates with the Facilities Team for project scope definition and long-term master planning requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Construction, Project Management, Engineering, or related field required. 
  • 6+ years’ experience in project management in commercial construction.
  • 4+ years’ experience working with projects, specifically coordination of technical trades and conducting on-site meetings with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure constructability and feasibility of each project.
  • Problem solver and critical thinker with a solid understanding of project management concepts.
  • Project management certification and training.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills. 
  • Experience working in a customer service-oriented environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.  Intermediate knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Ability and willingness to learn any programs, applications or skills required to excel in this role.
  • Must be a team player committed to working in an environment of continuous improvement.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with the state and local parish permitting process and architectural design/code reviews.
  • Ability to use critical path or pull scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental, safety, and industrial regulations.
  • Experience with a continuous process discipline such as Six Sigma, Lean, etc.
