Laitram L.L.C. is seeking an innovative and self-directed person to join our multi-functional Product Stewardship team at the Intralox, Harahan office.  Reporting to the Product Stewardship Manager, the Chemical Specialist will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise globally for chemical compatibility.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets chemical suppliers’ product composition data and performs risk assessments on how chemical products affect our finished products.
  • Manages risk assessment information and classification criteria to support new and existing products with internal and external customers.
  • Develops test plans to evaluate chemical compatibility and coordinates in-house and external lab testing.
  • Works within cross-functional teams to investigate external customer complaints and drives to root cause.
  • Documents results of the investigations and assists with post mortem incident review.
  • Manages New Material Memorandums and reviews Safety Data Sheets for processing hazards/chemical compatibility.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Biology, Chemistry or other science discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in industry
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well verbally with internal and external customers.
  • Strong English writing skills
  • College mathematics required
  • Ability to make educated judgments on correctness, accuracy, and appropriateness of information
  • Must be able to prioritize and make decisions
  • Must be able to create and maintain systems for keeping up on details on multiple projects
  • Self-managed.  Able to complete tasks independently
  • Must continually demonstrate a strong attention to detail, careful execution of tasks, and regularly check work before submitting
  • Must be able to extract and analyze data
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Strong desire to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal & negotiation skills
  • Computer literacy with Oracle and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Practical knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Able to handle multiple work interruptions and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Able to participate in cross functional teams with minimal supervision
  • Able to travel as necessary

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese a plus
  • Statistics a plus
  • Oracle, NOETIX, SharePoint a plus
